Finding public access USENET newsgroup servers

Sometimes, your default USENET news host won't carry all the newsgroups that interest you. If this happens, send an email message to your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) technical service department with the name of the USENET newsgroup you'd like to access. In most cases, your ISP will add the newsgroup to its news server. If this doesn't work, you can set up a second news server account that connects to a free newsgroup (NNTP) server.

  • Yahoo! lists several free USENET servers at Public_Access_Usenet_Sites/.
  • USENET newsgroups on the Internet at Google Groups.
  • However, if you'd prefer to use your newsreader to manage newsgroup subscriptions, you can find free USENET servers here.
